About Us

The Labor and Employment Law Section is a voluntary organization within the State Bar of Texas and consists of approximately 3,000 licensed attorneys throughout the state who practice labor and employment law. Section members represent a wide variety of clients including employers, employees and labor organizations, in both the private and public sectors.

The purpose of the Labor and Employment Law Section is to promote and enhance the practice of law by all lawyers who specialize or have an interest in labor and employment law.

The Section publishes a quarterly Newsletter. The Newsletter contains a report from the Chair on current Section activities. It also contains concise summaries, with commentary by the editor, on recent Texas state and federal court decisions involving significant labor and employment law issues.

The section also presents a number of programs. Our next program will be our Fall Employment Law Update Course in San Antonio. This year the program takes place on September 17th and 18th. The location and program information will be available during the summer.

The Section is involved in a number of other activities. The Section is proud of the work of its Pro Bono Committee which strives, through its assistance to existing statewide pro bono service providers, to facilitate the provision of legal services to low income individuals involving labor and employment law issues. The Section also presents an annual writing award recognizing the student whose article on a labor and employment law topic is judged the most outstanding during the past year. Lastly, the Section strives through this Web Site to disseminate information regarding the Section's activities, and, as the site is further developed, to provide a tool which will be useful in the day to day practice of Section members. Check out the dozens of jury charges now found in our database.

We invite all labor and employment law practitioners in Texas to peruse this site. We hope that you will find it informative and useful. The site will always be "Under Construction" and we will strive to improve it as time passes. Please feel free to e-mail us with your comments and suggestions.
